SABOREA LANZAROTE: What does Seaside Los Jameos taste like?

Nov 14, 2024

Describing the taste of a dish or wine is relatively straightforward—although individual preferences may differ. However, answering the question "What does Seaside Los Jameos taste like?" is a bit more complex. This is because it’s not just about the explosion of flavours you experience each night at the themed buffet dinners. It’s about the blend of sensations and emotions you encounter in this Lanzarote oasis.

Saborea Lanzarote

At past editions of Saborea Lanzarote, Seaside Los Jameos has participated as a sponsor, offering a gastronomic experience that left a lasting impression on attendees. Last year, our head chef, Vicente Félix Rodríguez, led a show-cooking event, demonstrating Seaside Los Jameos’ firm commitment to using local produce, which not only enhances the quality of ingredients but also positively impacts our guests' health.

So, to answer the question we posed at the beginning, the adjectives that best describe Seaside Los Jameos' gastronomy are "fun", "sustainable", and "circular economy". It’s a cuisine that tastes as good as it sounds.

What is Saborea Lanzarote?

Saborea Lanzarote is one of the Canary Islands’ most important gastronomic events, held annually in Lanzarote. Its aim is to promote local products through a cuisine that blends traditional and modern techniques in a festive atmosphere where food, drink, and music come together. The event, typically held in Teguise, brings together the island’s top restaurants, chefs, and producers, alongside nationally recognised figures from the culinary world.

The event offers a diverse programme designed to provide attendees with a complete culinary experience. The various themed stages allow visitors to explore local products, traditional flavours, and the latest innovations in cuisine. Highlights include ‘Cocinando en Familia’—cooking workshops for families—and ‘Astrobeer’, a section dedicated to craft beer.

One of the main attractions is the gastronomic exhibitors, offering a wide variety of dishes and flavours that showcase local cuisine using fresh, local ingredients like fish, cheese, and volcanic wines. The event also features a gastro market, where visitors can purchase these local products, which are the foundation of many of the dishes presented.

In addition to promoting local products, Saborea Lanzarote welcomes renowned chefs from the national and international stage, who participate in talks and masterclasses. Notable figures include Jordi Cruz, whose restaurant ABaC (Barcelona) holds three Michelin stars, and Pepa Muñoz, a chef who advocates the use of local and sustainable ingredients, which she showcases at her restaurant, El Qüenco de Pepa (Madrid).

This is a culinary journey from start to finish, celebrating local gastronomy alongside guest talent in a lively atmosphere, complemented by concerts from local bands and DJ sessions that add a ‘note’ of flavour to the event.

Seaside Los Jameos: a service for everyone

As Beate Sekula, the director of Seaside Los Jameos, explains, you don’t need to be a guest at the hotel to enjoy its exquisite food.

If you live in Lanzarote or are simply visiting the island, you can book a table by calling in advance. “The hotel doesn’t have a traditional restaurant as such, but everyone is welcome to join us at any time for dinner, lunch, or even breakfast,” she explained during one of her talks at Saborea Lanzarote.

The cuisine at Seaside Los Jameos is for everyone and caters to all tastes, offering themed dinners every night. “We offer up to 12 themed dinners: Canarian, German, Thousand and One Nights, Greek, and many more. It’s a very fun culinary experience,” Beate added. But it’s not just fun because of the variety on offer, where every diner is sure to find something they enjoy. It’s also about the interactive buffet experience: “We have a specialised kitchen team that cooks live in front of our guests,” she explained.

A Focus on Sustainability

Seaside Los Jameos’ cuisine not only delights and excites but also satisfies. That’s why it’s hard to define exactly what Seaside Los Jameos tastes like. As we mentioned, this culinary concept is also about sustainability. To shed more light on this, head chef Vicente Félix Rodríguez elaborates.

Sostenibilidad

“We’re in Lanzarote, and we take care of our landscape by embracing the circular economy. All our fish is fresh from local waters, and all the vegetables we use come from the island—the tomatoes, the cucumbers. Everything that’s available locally, we source locally,” said Vicente. But that’s not all: “We also have our own farmer, so ingredients like lettuce, parsley, and similar produce are supplied directly to us throughout the year,” he added.

The hotel understands that opting for zero-mile products to support the environment comes at a higher cost compared to working with other suppliers. “We pay a bit more, but we accept it because we’re committed to quality and sustainability,” Vicente emphasised.

Come to Seaside Los Jameos and taste, enjoy, and experience the essence of Lanzarote!
